ASUS ROG has an interesting service for its gaming laptop owners, stating that the company would replace the thermal compound free of cost if it shows signs of overheating and thermal throttling.
ASUS Offers Free Thermal Compound Replacement For ROG Laptop Owners Facing Thermal Throttling & Overheating Issues
This particular service of ASUS is bound to mainland China only, however, it is still intriguing to see the company putting out such an offer, given that after-sale services especially for a gaming laptop, tend to bother sometimes.
ASUS claims that if a user sees issues such as high overheating and thermal throttling on their new ROG laptops, they can take the device to any authorized service center & get the thermal solution replaced free of cost. However, it is important to note that the service is limited to certain ASUS models. You can view the complete offer below:
ROG notebooks use liquid metal for thermal conductivity, which can achieve thermal conductivity that far exceeds that of ordinary silicone grease. The thermal conductivity of the second generation Violent Bear Liquid Gold can reach 85.4W/mK, which is 14 times that of ordinary silicone grease (taking 7921 as an example, the thermal conductivity is 6W/mK). At the same time, liquid metal also has the advantages of small attenuation and long service life.
For 2023 models, if you have concerns about heat dissipation during use, you can send it to an ASUS authorized service center for testing.
According to the test results, if the heat dissipation efficiency does not meet the test standards and meets the following conditions, the liquid gold and silicone grease can be replaced free of charge according to the factory configuration of the model.
1. New products licensed in mainland China
2. The purchase invoice must be within 1 year. If the invoice cannot be produced, the purchase date must be within 1 year.
3. The user has registered for accident insurance (given when purchasing the machine, the user needs to manually register for machine inspection)
4. The fragile stickers on the heat dissipation module are intact and there are no traces of disassembly or assembly of the heat dissipation module.
The first batch of models to introduce this service are: Gunslinger 7 series (including super competition version), Moba 7Plus series (including super version), Moba Xinrui 2023, and Ice Blade 7 Dual Screen. Other 2023 models will be introduced in batches later.

Based on the list above, we can note that this offer only applies to top-tier ROG Zephyrus DUO, ROG Strix, & ROG Flow series based on the AMD Ryzen 7000 HX (Dragon Range) and Intel 14th Gen HX (Raptor Lake) CPUs. These are desktop replacement designs and feature much higher TDPs than the traditional laptop SKUs so it makes to have this offer available to users buying such laptops. ASUS also plans to extend this offer to more laptops soon. The top AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX chip can reach up to 120W while the Intel Core i9-13980HX can hit a peak power of up to 157W.
It is disappointing not to see the offer available globally, but we could see its debut soon, given that for now, ASUS is just experimenting with the service. While we haven't seen many cases of high temperature due to a flawed thermal solution, it is still appreciable to see the company putting out such offers, given that it is a method to improve their PR.
